Saratoga County Court Dockets

Court records of Saratoga County, New York, are available through several channels. SaratogaCourt.us allows you to search for public information about court cases in the county. Additionally, records can be found through the official resources of the New York State court system, court clerks' offices, as well as through public terminals installed directly in court buildings.

Saratoga Court System & Jurisdictions

Several courts operate in Saratoga County, each handling specific categories of cases. Understanding the jurisdiction will help determine where to search for the necessary court record.

Saratoga County Court — handles felony-level criminal cases that arise within the county. The judge of this court may also preside over Supreme Court sessions.

Supreme Court (4th Judicial District) — the state's court of general jurisdiction. It handles:

  • Civil claims over $25,000
  • Divorce and property division cases
  • Mortgage foreclosures

Family Court handles cases related to custody, child support, protective orders, and juvenile matters. Most records of this court are confidential.

Surrogate's Court — the equivalent of a probate court. It deals with wills, estate administration, and the appointment of guardians for property. The County Clerk's Office retains some related documents.

City and Town/Village Justice Courts operate in the county's municipalities — Saratoga Springs, Mechanicville, Ballston Spa, and others. They handle:

  • Minor offenses and misdemeanors
  • Traffic violations
  • Small Claims up to $5,000 in city courts and up to $3,000 in town courts
  • Civil cases up to $15,000

If a person is held in a state facility, information can be checked through the DOCCS lookup system. For those in a local correctional facility, check the inmate information page of the county sheriff.

Saratoga Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

The court schedule depends on the specific court. There is no single online portal for all county courts — each court maintains its own calendar.

For state-level courts (Supreme Court, County Court, Family Court, Surrogate's Court), the schedule is published through the New York State Unified Court System on the nycourts.gov website. There you can find the daily calendar by party name or case number.

To learn about hearings in Town or Village Justice Court, contact the respective court directly. Most town courts operate on a limited schedule — one or two evenings a week. Current contact information is usually posted on the respective municipalities' websites.

Some tips for searching:

  1. Determine which court is handling your case (see the section above).
  2. For state courts — use the eCourts portal on nycourts.gov.
  3. For local courts — call the clerk's office or visit the court in person.
  4. Press releases from the Saratoga County Sheriff sometimes contain information about court hearings related to arrests.

New York State Police reports are available through NYSP Blotter Reports, although they do not replace the court calendar.

How to Get a Copy of a Saratoga Court Document

The procedure for obtaining copies depends on the type of document and the court that holds it.

Certified and Regular Copies

A certified copy has an official seal and the clerk's signature, confirming its authenticity. Such copies are needed for legal procedures — filing in another court, immigration cases, or notarial acts. A regular (non-certified) copy is suitable for review.

Online: Some records of the Supreme Court and County Court are available through the eCourts portal of the New York State Unified Court System. To order certified copies, you usually need to apply in person or by mail.

In Person: Contact the clerk's office of the respective court at the Saratoga County Courthouse.

By Mail: Send a written request with the case number, party names, and document type. Include a check or money order for the appropriate amount.

For land records, deeds, and mortgage documents, contact the Land Records Department of the County Clerk's Office.
